After 13 years, J. Rae’s cookie commissary has reopened in its birthplace, Fort Worth.
“My aunt Jana (Howell) started J. Rae’s in Fort Worth, and to now be at a place where we are able to open a second location back where it all started is so special,” owner Audrey Dixon wrote in a news release. “We’ve had customers drive all the way to Dallas just to support us, so being able to serve this community again means everything.”
J. Rae’s, known for their vibrant and picturesque sugar cookies, opened on Foch Street in 2008. After Howell retired, Mandy and Chris Hamilton purchased the bake shop in 2013 and rebranded it as Glitz Bakery. Glitz still operates in Benbrook, selling iced sugar cookies and cake balls.
J. Rae’s started its DFW comeback in Dallas in 2021 when Dixon reached out to her aunt to get the original recipes. Dixon officially opened a second location in Fort Worth on July 16.
J. Rae’s welcomed back their local fan base with festive Fort Worth and Texas themed cookies upon their reopening in Cowtown after 13 years.
Does J. Rae’s still sell the original cookie recipes?
J. Rae’s sells its original recipe of hand-decorated iced sugar cookies, cupcakes, cookie cakes, cake balls and cheesecakes.
Social media users were wondering if Glitz Bakery has the same recipes as J. Rae’s, since the Hamiltons purchased the bakery from Howell. While Glitz does sell the same menu and hand-iced sugar cookies, the recipes have been modified to make them their own.
As for customers who want a taste of the cookies they once loved more than a decade ago, J. Rae’s sells iced sugar cookies in neon colors, in all shapes and sizes. For its re-opening, they had Texas-shaped cookies with “Fort Worth” writing. For back-to-school, they are offering “Best Teachers Ever” cookies.
Classic cookies come in 11 flavors like chocolate chip, oatmeal raisin, peanut butter, snicker doodle, white chocolate macadamia nut, fruity pebbles, monster and white chocolate cranberry.
Cupcake and cake balls come in 12 different flavors, including chocolate, vanilla, carrot cake, funfetti, Oreo, lemon, red velvet and coconut.
Cheesecakes come in chocolate chip, vanilla and white chocolate as well as seasonal flavors. Cookie cakes come in chocolate chips or M&M flavors.

Where is the new J. Rae’s bakery?
The new J. Rae’s bakery is just a few blocks down from its original location, at 3330 West Seventh St., in Fort Worth.
They are open Monday to Friday from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. and Sunday from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m.
