CIUDAD JUAREZ, MEXICO (KFOX14/CBS4) — A 4-year-old boy died Sunday after becoming trapped inside a parked vehicle in the Kilómetro 29 area of Ciudad Juárez during extreme summer heat, according to a report from KINT.
Authorities have launched an investigation into the circumstances surrounding the child’s death.
According to preliminary information, the boy had been under the care of his mother and grandfather, who reportedly fell asleep inside the home. While they were asleep, the child apparently walked outside unnoticed and climbed into a parked vehicle.
When the family realized the child was missing, they began searching for him and eventually found him unconscious inside the vehicle. Relatives immediately transported the boy to Fire Station No. 8 in a desperate attempt to get emergency medical assistance.
Rescue personnel performed CPR, but despite their efforts, the child was pronounced dead at the scene.
The Chihuahua State Attorney General’s Office is investigating the incident to determine the exact timeline, cause of death, and whether any criminal liability exists. The child’s body was transferred to the Forensic Medical Service for an autopsy.
