At the end of 2024, Las Chiladas ended its 27-year run in San Antonio after owner Patrick Flores made the decision not to renew the restaurant’s lease at its longtime home. The announcement was made in October 2024, and in the months that followed, longtime customers found themselves visiting the dining and event space for the last time.

With so much history packed into the building, one has to wonder what could possibly stand to replace Las Chiladas. MySA visited the property at 2387 NW Military Highway on Friday, October 10, to find it empty and devoid of any Las Chiladas insignia. What we did see was a “for lease” sign for the empty retail space. We called the number on the sign, which directed us to a voice-answering machine. We left a message, but did not receive a call back at the time of publication.

MySA tried to call two different numbers listed for Las Chiladas in hopes of contacting someone related to the business, and we sent a direct message to the restaurant on Facebook. From what can be surmised from the restaurant’s social media activity, along with the “for lease” sign posted in the front window, it seems Las Chiladas has left the building, and nothing has yet replaced the longtime eatery. But Flores, its longtime owner, keeps the memory alive with infrequent posts and well-wishes for former employees and family members.

The website for Las Chiladas is still online despite the restaurant’s closure, a testament to what once was. While nothing has or can replace the 27 years the “one of a kind” restaurant spent serving award-winning tamales and Mexican food to its dedicated customers, we’ll keep y’all updated on what might open in its place.
