EL PASO, Texas (KTSM) — The El Paso Independent School District will hold the first meeting of its newly established Communications Advisory Group on Thursday as district leaders continue its community engagement efforts during a period of transition for the school board.
The meeting is scheduled for 5 p.m. on Thursday, July 30, at the EPISD Administration Building, located at 1014 N. Stanton Street.
According to the district, the Communications Advisory Group is part of EPISD’s ongoing commitment to providing strong, transparent and meaningful communication with families, employees and the community.
The group is made up of parents, employees and community members who will provide feedback, share their perspectives and help the district improve its communication efforts.
The meeting comes as EPISD works to fill two vacancies on its Board of Trustees following recent resignations.
As previously reported by KTSM 9 News, Trustee Valerie Beals resigned from the District 6 seat shortly after the board voted to declare a financial exigency, citing family reasons in her resignation letter. Her departure followed the earlier resignation of District 7 Trustee Leah Hanany, leaving two seats open on the seven-member board.
EPISD board to discuss hiring process for vacant districts
Both districts will hold Candidate Forums and Info Nights to hear from candidates seeking appointment to represent District 6 and District 7.
District 6 meeting:
Tuesday, Aug 4: 5:30 p.m. at Franklin High School, located at 900 North Resler Drive.
District 7 meeting:
Wednesday, Aug 5: 5:30 p.m. at Coronado High School, located at 100 Champions Place.

District officials said both the advisory group and the board appointment process are intended to encourage greater public participation.
