Timeline: Cold front sparks showers and storms in Houston this weekend

  • July 31, 2026

Saturday morning, a line of showers and storms approaches far northern communities, bringing downpours and gusty winds into Madisonville, Huntsville, and even Trinity.

As the line of rain moves south into the afternoon, it has the potential to lose steam.

The storms are not severe but could bring gustier winds, downpours, and lightning.

Remember if you hear thunder roar, you’ll want to head indoors for your safety.

How much rain Harris County picks up will depend on the placement of the front. This time of year, it is hard to get a front to clear all the way to the coast, often stalling before it can move south.

If the weekend front doesn’t reach Houston, rain chances will be very limited. However, there is plenty of heat and humidity ahead of the front, so once it reaches Houston, showers and storms will be easy to develop.

Right forecasting around a 40% Saturday with decreasing rain chances through into the early week.
