In the years since H-E-B set up shop, the Spicewood Springs location remained one of the company’s smaller and more outdated stores. Amid its closure news in late May, H-E-B leadership acknowledged the store’s lease is coming to an end and the company opted not to renew.
That decision came largely in part due to an internal company review of H-E-B’s existing network and store footprint, and where best to invest its resources.
“While decisions like this are never easy, we are grateful to the customers, Partners, and community who have supported this store over the years,” Cathy Harm, H-E-B senior vice president, Central Texas, said in a late May statement sent to MySA. “As this lease comes to an end, we remain committed to serving this area and have invested in more updated stores nearby to further enhance the shopping experience and provide the products, conveniences, and services our customers deserve.”
Products remained far and few in between during a visit to the store on Friday, with most shelves barren and entire departments of the store sectioned off after completely selling out of produce, bakery goods, meat and other essentials. Only a couple of customers dwindled around the store, patching together any last-minute finds into baskets and carts.
H-E-B is providing both free curbside and delivery services to Spicewood Springs customers in August, as well as is offering all of the store’s employees positions at various other H-E-Bs. Nearby, other H-E-B outposts include:
