Gone are the days that Whataburger was your best option for a fast-food burger in the Lone Star State. With P. Terry’s adding more and more 24-hour locations and In-N-Out popping up in heavy trafficked areas, the orange Ws are getting surrounded like the soldiers at the Alamo. Look no further than North Texas, where a town just outside of Dallas is about to get its own multimillion-dollar burger joint courtesy of an East Coast brand.
Shake Shack has submitted plans for a $1.3 million restaurant in Wylie, about 30 minutes northeast of downtown Dallas. The official address is still to be announced, but the restaurant will be located along East Farm to Farmet Road 544, according to filings with the Texas Department of Licensing and Regulation (TDLR).
Wylie is currently home to a Whataburger and a Hook & Bun, but this will be Shake Shack’s first entry into the DFW town. Founded and headquartered in New York City, Shake Shack has 15 restaurants spread out across Dallas, Fort Worth and its surrounding area towns, with more than 30 across all of Texas.
The new Wylie restaurant is aiming to begin construction on October 19 and is expected to wrap up by May 3, 2027, according to the TDLR filing. The 3,000-square-foot restaurant will also offer a drive-thru, giving folks a chance to secure fresh burgers, chicken, crinkle-cut fries and various milkshakes from the comfort of their cars just in time for Cinco de Mayo.
