LOCKESBURG, AR – Wayne Hoover made his peaceful transition on Monday morning, the 27th of July 2026, in Lockesburg, Arkansas. Wayne was born on July 7, 1956, in Fort Worth, Texas, to the late Herbert Clark and Mildred Pauline Lander Hoover. He spent most of his years in White Settlement, Texas. Growing up, he was often seen walking around White Settlement, visiting various businesses. He particularly favored the city offices, fire department, public works facility and the recreation center. He spent many days fishing at Central Park Pond and the city hall lagoon. Wayne was a gentle giant and grew up as ‘Big Hoov’. He never met a stranger or knew an enemy. Wayne would talk to anyone, whether they were willing to engage or not. Everyone knew he could not be trusted with a secret. Wayne was a caring soul that would share anything and everything with everyone. He loved his family and would often call just to chat and share his latest adventure. Wayne was part of the Class of 1975 at Brewer High School in White Settlement. He attended Job Corps in San Marcos, Texas, between 1974 -1976, where he obtained his General Education Diploma. While at Job Corps, Wayne learned how to protect himself from the hard knocks of life. As Wayne settled into adulthood, he spent many years working at Soda Springs BBQ in White Settlement. He would help in the kitchen, especially during the busy holiday meal prepping season. Wayne enjoyed playing pool in local pool leagues. Before moving to the country, he played competitively in a pool league with his siblings and nieces. He had his favorite chair by the bar where he could chat with everyone that passed by. Wayne also had a love for fishing, hunting and the simplicity of country living. He spent the last ten years living with his ‘adopted’ niece, Kitty Scott (Jessi), and her children (Ginnefer, Eddie, and Jaymee). Kitty was the only person that Wayne would listen to when it came to his health journey. Her unrelenting commitment to Wayne, the care she provided, and the bond these two shared over the years, is what allowed Wayne to live out his final years just the way he wanted – out in the country, fishing and hunting. The family will forever be grateful for all that Kitty did for Wayne in his final years. Wayne was preceded in death by his parents; sister, Pauline Marie Hoover; and sister, Minnie Alice Hoover Smith (Charlie). He is survived by his sister, Joyce Ann Hoover Vines (Randie); brother, Ronnie Dean Hoover (Lisa); brother, Larry Nelson Hoover (Susan); Kitty Scott; and many nieces, nephews, and cousins. Visitation: 6 – 8 p.m. Wednesday, Aug. 5, 2026, at Greenwood Funeral Home in Memorial Suite B, 3344 White Settlement Rd., Fort Worth, Texas 76107. Funeral Service: 12 p.m. Thursday, Aug. 6, 2026, in Greenwood’s Live Oak Chapel, 3100 White Settlement Rd., Fort Worth, Texas 76107; followed by an entombment in Greenwood Mausoleum.
