Pop-up showers and thunderstorms are possible across parts of West Texas, the Hill Country, Central Texas and South-Central Texas today as a weak “not-as-hot” front moves south. Most Texans will remain dry, but a few storms could produce dangerous lightning, localized damaging wind gusts, small hail and brief heavy rain.

Lower humidity will make conditions feel less obnoxious across the northern third of Texas this weekend, but this is not a big, bad, very mad cold front. Hot weather continues statewide, especially across southern Texas.

In this Saturday, August 1, 2026, Texas Weather Roundup:

• Where scattered storms may develop this afternoon
• The localized severe-weather risk along the New Mexico state line
• Brief heavy rain and isolated flash-flooding concerns
• Moderate to high fire danger across northeastern Texas
• Lower humidity and cooler mornings for northern Texas
• Sunday and Monday temperature forecasts

Widespread flooding is not expected. Most Texans will not receive rain, but storms that do develop may produce frequent cloud-to-ground lightning and locally strong winds.

Please avoid dragging trailer chains and use extra caution with welding or other outdoor work that could produce sparks. Dry roadside grass can ignite quickly during the hottest part of the day.
