This is the second time in as many years that Jason Kidd has earned a contract extension from the franchise.

The Dallas Mavericks and coach Jason Kidd have agreed to a multi-year contract extension, the team announced Tuesday. The agreement comes just over a week before the team’s season opener against the San Antonio Spurs. Terms of the deal were not disclosed.

Kidd has been the Mavericks coach for the last four seasons, compiling a 179-149 record over that span. His previous contract extension came during Dallas’ 2024 playoff run, when the Los Angeles Lakers had interest in interviewing him.

Prior to his time in Dallas, Kidd spent two seasons as a Lakers assistant after three-plus seasons with the Milwaukee Bucks, where he went 139-152. Kidd got his coaching start in 2013-14 with the Brooklyn Nets, where he went 44-38 in one season before being traded to Milwaukee.

By extending Kidd’s contract, the Mavericks have signaled their intent to build a foundation of continuity and trust as No. 1 overall pick Cooper Flagg begins his professional career. With Irving expected to return from injury and a deeper roster surrounding their rookie phenom, Dallas believes its window to contend remains open under Kidd’s leadership.
