OXNARD, Calif. (KLTV) – Dallas Cowboys running back Javonte Williams is headed into his second year with the team after rushing for more than 1,000 yards last season.
Williams said the offense is on another level this year.
“I feel like we hit the ground running. We didn’t really start from ground one. We just kind of built on what we could have done better from last year,” Williams said. “And I feel like we are executing and communicating well.”
Williams said there are some things on and off the field that he has worked on this offseason.
“On the field, probably just my conditioning. And then even off the field, just my leadership,” Williams said. “Bringing other guys along because I know it’s a long season. We’re going to need everybody.”
Williams is on the leadership council for the team. He said it means a lot to him, and he is impressed with offensive lineman Tyler Booker, who is also on the leadership council.
“He is just a great player and a great person all around. You can see it. See the way that he worked on the field? Same thing in the locker room and in the meeting rooms,” Williams said. “He’s vocal. He knows what he’s talking about. So yeah, a lot of people look up to him.”
When Williams was with the Denver Broncos, new Cowboys defensive coordinator Christian Parker was on the staff. Williams said seeing where Parker is now is a testament to his hard work.
“I just told the defense when I walked off the field, I really do like how they look. They moving around real fast. A lot of stems, things like that,” Williams said. “I was with him in Denver actually. So just seeing his growth and his maturity and how far he came, it’s a testament to his hard work.”
Williams spoke highly of second-year running back Jaydon Blue.
“He’s been doing excellent. Just every time he gets the ball I’m just watching because I know he’s going to make a play and make something happen. Just his speed and even just his maturity level,” Williams said. “I mean last year he was kind of a rookie. So he was kind of getting used to everything. But I feel like he made a big leap this year and he’s doing well.”
