Cowboys owner Jerry Jones offered a message of support to his former quarterback on Saturday.
Jones visited with FOX 4’s Mike Doocy and Sam Gannon at training camp in Oxnard, Calif., on Saturday, where he offered up some words of encouragement for Romo, saying that Romo’s greatest attribute is his ability to overcome adversity.
“Do you think Tony Romo knows how to get up when he gets knocked down?” Jones asked FOX 4. “He’s had a life of that, and absolutely that’s one of his greatest attributes, that he can handle adversity. This is something that he will work through.”
Romo spent 13 seasons with the Cowboys from 2004-16 after originally signing as an undrafted free agent. He joined CBS’ broadcasting crew shortly after retiring and has since been partnered with play-by-play man Jim Nantz. CBS announced Friday that J.J. Watt will replace Romo in the booth until further notice.
It’s unclear if or when Romo will be announcing games again, but it’s clear that he at least has a good deal of support back in Dallas.
“I love him,” Jones said. “I love what he’s about, I love his character, I love his love of the sport. He’s a very, very unique talent.”
