MURPHY, Texas — A Murphy police officer was terminated due to criminal misconduct allegations, according to the city.
The City of Murphy was made aware of these allegations on July 24. The police department immediately contacted the Texas Rangers to request an independent investigation.
The officer was placed on administrative leave, and an internal investigation was also launched, officials say. The officer was terminated on July 29 following the completion of the investigation.

“Protecting our community and maintaining the public’s trust are among our highest responsibilities. We take these allegations extremely seriously and are committed to ensuring they are addressed thoroughly, fairly and with full accountability. We will continue to cooperate with the Texas Rangers,” said Chief of Police Jeff Gibson.
The City of Murphy and the Murphy Police Department have declined to comment on specific allegations or details regarding the criminal investigation.
