DPS says a 16-year-old girl died after her SUV veered off U.S. 87, struck a City of La Vernia sign and rolled over early Sunday.
LA VERNIA, Texas — A 16-year-old girl was killed in a single-vehicle crash early Sunday morning in Wilson County, according to the Texas Department of Public Safety.
The crash happened around 4:20 a.m. on U.S. Highway 87 at Chihuahua Street, just outside La Vernia.
Preliminary information from DPS indicates the teen was driving a 2015 Lexus RX350 northbound on U.S. 87 when, for an unknown reason, the SUV veered off the roadway, crashed into the City of La Vernia sign and rolled over.
The teenage driver, who was the only occupant of the vehicle, was pronounced dead at the scene.
Authorities have not released her identity.
The cause of the crash remains under investigation.
