Sports are big business in the Metroplex, and the 2026 FIFA World Cup is an exceptional example. Bringing millions of dollars to our region, the sheer influx of revenue is welcomed. But the thousands of international and domestic visitors to our area will have lasting effects.

If you turned on the news or looked at any number of social media feeds, Fort Worth was in the spotlight. International visitors were enamored with what our city has to offer, from the Stockyards and authentic barbecue to wide-open spaces and our unmatched hospitality. We are a major metropolitan city with quintessential Texas charm.

Now that the party is over, the Fort Worth business community has an opportunity to leverage the momentum.

The World Cup and Real Estate
With three to four million visitors to DFW throughout the World Cup matches, hospitality, tourism and retail benefits are not surprising. But it also touches real estate. International visitors were pleasantly surprised by the homes throughout the Metroplex, and the long-term potential effect on real estate remains to be seen.

International and domestic visitors got to know our region with urban, suburban and rural communities linked by major thoroughfares, which is attractive to potential homeowners.

Making the region even more attractive are the job opportunities with international firms. The Metroplex serves as the U.S. or North American hub for more than 200 British-owned companies, with heavy hitters in logistics and technology. There have been announcements of a Spanish aviation company making a major expansion in the area, a Swiss company has a significant corporate and distribution presence and overall, the area is attracting more domestic giants with an international presence. That said, there are job opportunities for anyone around the globe who would like to call our region home. The result could be more people on the hunt for existing or newly built homes.

The quality of life, international diversity, innovation and vibrancy of Fort Worth can help employers – international and domestic – recruit the skilled workers they need.

Fort Worth’s International Brand Recognition
Now that the international community has gotten a taste of our city, we can expect even more visitors eager to take part in the same experiences in the future. Even though the World Cup has packed up, it does not mean the excitement is over. Because of the spotlight on our cowboy culture, we can expect Fort Worth to continue to be a tourist destination for our international friends.

Additionally, businesses will find the charm in having Fort Worth as a convention destination, a potential headquarters location and a place to invest. The city branding effect can influence corporate site-selection decisions for years.

Future of Fort Worth: Growth
Being on the world stage primes the business community for growth. Business leaders who attended the matches have experienced the area and see an opportunity for development – businesses and homes. We are ready to welcome our international friends, new business and growth.

Fort Worth has held tight to its Texas charm and always will. It’s this charm that continues to spur future growth in the “Westoplex” in every business sector. It is how we respond to the influx of interest from international business leaders that will determine our reach.
