Some 40 departing flights at DFW International Airport and Dallas Love Field were canceled as of Friday morning as the first day of government shutdown-related flight reductions went into place.

At DFW Airport, the primary hub for Fort Worth-based American Airlines, 31 flights were canceled. That includes 24 American Airlines flights, four United Airlines flights, two Frontier flights and one Delta flight.

That’s a small fraction of the 962 flights scheduled to depart DFW today. U.S Transportation Secretary Sean Duffy originally said federal officials would cut air capacity by 10% at major airports, but the FAA said Thursday that those cuts would be phased in over the next week.

Among the hardest hit routes are those to Houston, including three flights from United to George Bush Intercontinental Airport and two American Airlines-marketed flights, one each to Intercontinental and Houston Hobby. There are 23 flights scheduled from DFW to Houston’s two airports on Friday, including 17 to Intercontinental and six to Houston Hobby.
