OXNARD, Calif. (KLTV) – On Monday, the Dallas Cowboys put the pads on for the first time since they arrived in Oxnard, California, for training camp.
Head coach Brian Schottenheimer said before practice that the idea is to wrap up but not take your teammate to the ground.
After individual drills and special teams work, it was time for the offense and defense to square off in the team segment.
The offense showed flashes of greatness with Dak Prescott leading the team. The Cowboys have been working on more screen plays and executed a couple of long plays from screen passes. CeeDee Lamb was able to make a couple of nice grabs on the sidelines and the offensive line opened some holes for the running backs. Phil Mafah and Ryan Flournoy also made some big plays.
The defense was up to the challenge most of the day. Arp’s DeMarvion Overshown blew up a toss play and knocked Hunter Luepke to the ground. Cobie Durant picked off a Prescott pass in the back of the end zone when the Cowboys were inside the red zone.
One player left the field due to injury. Tight end Princeton Fant appeared to injure his leg on a play. He was down on the field for several minutes before being helped to the trainer’s tent. After a few minutes in the tent, he was carted off the field into the locker room.
Coach Schottenheimer should have an update on his status on Tuesday.
