Back in June, five-star running back Landen Williams-Callis took his final two official visits to Texas and Texas A&M, with two in-state rivals going head-to-head for the nation’s No. 3 running back.
Less than two months later, the Longhorns won the battle, landing Williams-Callis’ commitment on Saturday.
Williams-Callis, a member of the class of 2027, hails from Richmond, Texas, and attends Dr. Thomas E. Randle High School. As a junior, he rushed for 3,502 yards and 59 touchdowns across 16 games. Additionally, he has proven his speed as a dual-sport athlete in track and field, posting several sub 10.70-second times in the 100 meters.
According to 247Sports scouting analyst Gabe Brooks, Williams-Callis is an “ultra-productive back who boasts high-volume durability and explosive big-play juice.”
That evaluation, backed by his high school performance, suggests he has the potential to succeed at the next level. His high school resume turned the heads of coaches and scouts across the country, with Williams-Callis selecting Texas over roughly 70 other programs.
Williams-Callis has become the Longhorns No. 2 ranked prospect in the 2027 class behind Easton Royal, five-star wide receiver and Texas commit who was ranked as ESPN’s No. 8 overall prospect.
Williams-Callis is set to join a backfield that includes current freshman running back Derrek Cooper, who will have a full season of Southeastern Conference experience under his belt by the time Williams-Callis arrives.
Head coach Steve Sarkisian and his staff have looked to bolster strength at the running back position after a subpar 2025 rushing season, which has become evident through their recent pursuits on the recruiting trail.
Williams-Callis could be a critical piece in Texas’ plans to revitalize its run game.
