Fort Worth Fire Department battles grass fire near train tracks that spread to nearby home

More than 60 firefighters took more than 3 hours to bring the fire under control. Four residents of the affected home were displaced.

FORT WORTH, Texas — The Fort Worth Fire Department battled a fire Monday afternoon near East Vickery Boulevard and South Ayers Avenue that started as a grass fire and spread to a nearby home, officials said.

Trains had to be stopped in the area as crews battled the fire.

Accoridng to the Fort Worth Fire Department, multiple calls were received just after 1 p.m. regarding the grass fire on the east side of the city.

Upon arrival, officials say crews found the fire moving fast and a brush alarm was called to bring in more resources due to the extreme heat.

While fighting the brush fire, officials say it spread to a home in the 900 block of Bradley Avenue. A brush truck was able to cross the tracks to fight the fire from across the tracks until more crews could get around the stopped train and take control.

More than 60 firefighters fought the fire for more than three hours before it was brought under control and the hot spots wer extinguished, the department said. 

As a result of the fire, officials said four people were displaced from the affected home. But no injuries were reported.

Helicopter footage appeared to show burnt grass along both sides of the train tracks. Firefighters could also be seen spraying down the home.
