CORPUS CHRISTI, Texas — A 23-year-old man was arrested after an overnight shooting along South Padre Island Drive that left another man injured, according to the Corpus Christi Police Department.
Officers were called to the 8000 block of South Padre Island Drive around 2:42 a.m. Monday for a reported shooting.
When officers arrived, they found a 24-year-old man with gunshot injuries. Police said officers provided first aid until paramedics arrived. The victim was taken to a local hospital with non-life-threatening injuries.
Investigators detained witnesses and a suspect at the scene while they gathered information.
Police arrested Armando Velasquez, 23, on a charge of aggravated assault with a deadly weapon.
According to investigators, the people involved knew each other. Police said the shooting does not appear to be a random incident.
The investigation remains ongoing.
