Video shows moment crashing car comes within inches of officer conducting traffic stop
EL PASO, Texas —
An officer in Texas was nearly struck by a car while he had another driver pulled over on the side of a highway.

The El Paso Police Department posted a bodycam video of the incident as a warning to drivers to be aware of their surroundings.
The officer was shown conducting a routine traffic stop when an accused distracted driver smashed into the back of the pulled-over vehicle while going at a high rate of speed.
The stopped vehicle was pushed about 500 feet down the highway.
Both the officer and the struck driver were treated for non-life-threatening injuries.
“This incident is a stark reminder that traffic stops are among the most dangerous parts of an officer’s job,” the police department said in the post. “In a matter of seconds, a routine stop nearly turned tragic.”
