A Preston Hollow home at a site formerly tied to a Dallas pair known for their beauty product business is listed for sale.
A new mansion is being constructed on a plot of land that used to be owned by Isabell Cottrell, the former wife of Comer Cottrell Jr., who founded a company which helped popularized the Jheri curl hair style.
The upcoming home, at 5444 Northbrook Drive, was listed for $15 million on July 27, according to Zillow. The home also was among Texas’ most expensive listings in July, according to data from the Houston Association of Realtors.

Although the home is listed for $15 million, Warren Packer, co-owner of P Custom Homes, said the home’s price would be cut to $12.95 million. He said the home’s price depends on what kind of square footage the homeowner wants.

According to the $15 million listing, the home would include about 12,600 square feet. The home will include seven beds, eight full bathrooms and one half bathroom. Kerri Rushing and Michelle Packer of Grand Realty Services have the listing.
The property at 5444 Northbrook Drive was retained by Isabell Cottrell following her divorce from Comer Cottrell Jr., according to a Dallas Business Journal article from 2013.

Comer Cottrell Jr. was the president of the Dallas-based Pro-Line Corp. which made millions from Black hair products. The company made a kit which brought the celebrity Jheri curl style to the average customer. Isabell Cottrell was an executive of the cosmetics company Ethnic Gold.
Comer Cottrell Jr. was also a philanthropist who supported Paul Quinn College in southern Dallas. The college’s student union — the Isabell and Comer Cottrell Student Union Building — still bears the couple’s names. He also held a significant equity position in the Texas Rangers. Comer Cottrell Jr. died at the age of 82 in 2014.
Isabell Cottrell sold the Preston Hollow home in February 2016, according to the Dallas Central Appraisal District. The home is now owned by NIE Investments LLC.
Plans for the new home at 5444 Northbrook Drive include a resort style pool, an outdoor entertainment space and an eight car garage with clear glass doors.

When the site was owned by Isabell Cottrell, the property featured a 8,500-square-foot home built in the 1950s. However, the home was set for remodel or demolition to fit the modern buyer, according to the Dallas Business Journal article.

Now, the home is a vacant 1.62 acre lot primed for new construction. Lots with that much space are hard to find in Preston Hollow, and parcels that do often already have a home built on them, Warren Packer said.

Plans for the new home include a resort style pool, an outdoor entertainment space and an eight-car garage with clear glass doors.
“You can see into the garages on the display areas and then as you walk in the lobby, you can look out into your Ferrari, your McLaren, your Lamborghini,” Warren Packer said. “So that kind of sets the tone for it.”

The home ranked second on a list of the most expensive July home listings in Texas.

The top 10 list from the Houston Association of Realtors — which covered listings from June 25 to July 29 –- also included five other homes in the Dallas-Fort Worth area:
