A July 29 filing with the Texas Department of Licensing and Regulation shows the museum plans to add a four-story parking garage, a new covered walkway to the museum entry and the addition of event space and restrooms. Estimated construction costs are $90 million. Construction is expected to start in early 2027 and be finished by early 2029, according to the filing.
Details in TDLR filings are subject to change without notice, but they offer initial details on a project’s scope, estimated construction costs and work timeline. Museum officials filed for a construction permit last week, city records show. Perot Museum officials declined to provide additional details about the project.
“Like many cultural institutions, Perot Museum leadership regularly engages in long-range planning to ensure responsible stewardship of our beloved campus. Early-stage planning can include municipal conversations and procedural permitting work. When future plans are fully developed and approved, we look forward to announcing them publicly,” museum spokesperson Kimberly Daniell said in a statement.
The Perot Museum of Nature and Science opened in Dallas’ Victory Park neighborhood in late 2012. The museum of nature and science was the result of the 2006 merger between the Dallas Museum of Natural History, The Science Place and the Dallas Children’s Museum.
The museum was named in honor of business executive Ross Perot and his wife Margot after the couple’s five adult children donated $50 million to the project.
