HOUSTON — California Gov. Gavin Newsom will be in Houston on Saturday to headline a rally to support Democrats in Texas, and to further his message against redistricting across the country.

After his big win on election night, Newsom is taking his message across the country, including states that lean heavily Republican. That win included California passing Prop 50, allowing them to redraw their congressional maps as a direct response to redistricting in Texas instigated by President Donald Trump.

“California stepped up. Now, we are taking this fight across the country — helping Democrats in other states push back against Trump’s election rigging,” Newsom said in a statement to POLITICO.

The rally, which begins at noon, was confirmed by Newsom’s campaign team, but the team has yet to announce a location.

Newsom’s mission to combat the GOP redistricting effort is to encourage Democrat-leaning states to follow suit, a move that could counteract any gains made by Republicans in the U.S. House of Representatives.

He has been especially critical of Texas Gov. Greg Abbott during the process of rolling out this mission and has campaigned with Texas Democrats during the summer, when they left the state to postpone a vote on the redistricted maps in Texas. Those maps are still under a judicial review.

Newsom is apparently considering a presidential run in 2028 and has become an active oppositional force to Trump.
