BEXAR COUNTY, Texas — Two brothers, including an 11-year-old, were hospitalized in critical condition after an “unprovoked” shooting by their neighbor on Tuesday evening in West Bexar County, according to Sheriff Javier Salazar.
The shooting happened around 7:40 p.m. in the 9800 block of Acadian Drive near U.S. Highway 90 and West Loop 1604.
According to the sheriff, a 38-year-old man left his home armed with a handgun and began firing towards a vehicle that was backing into a driveway across the street.
The occupants of the vehicle, an 11-year-old and 20-year-old, were both struck multiple times in the upper body. Both victims were rushed to the hospital in critical condition.
The shooter, who Salazar said was undergoing some sort of mental episode at the time, was taken into custody about 10 minutes later. The discarded weapon was recovered by deputies nearby in a drainage culvert.
We’re told he will most likely face two charges of aggravated assault with a deadly weapon but he could face upgraded charges in the event of a victim’s death.
