ANTHONY, N.M. (KFOX14/CBS4) — Gadsden Independent School District students return to class Monday as the district prepares for the start of a new school year that includes a new middle school campus, expanded safety efforts and new ways to communicate with families.
Associate Superintendent Rosa Villalobos joined KFOX14 Community Conversations as the district’s back-to-school outreach as GISD heads into the year with enrollment on the minds of many school systems across the region. District officials are assessing what enrollment will look like for Gadsden ISD this year and whether any trends are emerging.
Student safety is also a focus after the city of Anthony, New Mexico, authorized a school resource officer partnership with GISD in May.
District leaders say the partnership is aimed at strengthening campus safety.
Next week, the new Gadsden Middle School is set to open its doors, marking a major milestone for the district as students and staff begin using the new facility.
The district is also rolling out two communications systems for parents and students this year, an effort intended to improve how families receive information and stay connected with schools.
GISD is beginning the school year under new leadership, and district administrators say they are focused on how the district will move forward as classes begin.
As the new school year starts, district leaders are also emphasizing a message to students, parents, staff and the community ahead of Monday’s return to school.
