Everybody loves the big dogs, the national chains that come in handy during a quick lunch break, but sometimes it just takes a hometown favorite to truly hit the spot, and a new report from FinanceBuzz recently named an iconic ’70s-style drive-thru as the tastiest local fast food spot in the Lone Star State.
FinanceBuzz didn’t provide a methodology for choosing the fast-food favorites, but it said its ultimate picks are among the most beloved fast-food destinations across the country. The personal finance website claims that the fast-food industry feeds nearly 32% of Americans every day.
The capital city staple is beloved for its nostalgic classics — jalapeño burgers, fried chicken, shrimp, hand-dipped onion rings and fried pies. The burger joint opened a second location in Hutto in 2023.
Top Notch is also known for its live music and car show events.
The restaurant has been a staple in Austin since 1971. It served as the backdrop of that legendary “Alright, alright, alright” scene that helped launch McConaughey’s illustrious career. Roughly 60% to 70% of the menu has remained the same since Top Notch first opened, according to general manager Jarett Austin.
“The No. 1 priority here other than making great food is to try and capture that same culture that it had back in 1971,” Austin told MySA in March.
