Flagg put together a historic rookie campaign in his first season with the Mavericks. As a teenager, Flagg averaged 21 points, 6.7 rebounds and 4.5 assists, becoming the first rookie since Michael Jordan to lead his team in total points, rebounds, assists and steals. He edged out former Duke teammate Kon Knueppel to win Rookie of the Year. Flagg’s 51-point game against the Orlando Magic in April was the highest-scoring game by a teenager in NBA history, surpassing his own record of 49 points that he set against the Hornets in January. Flagg was named the National Player of the Year in his lone season at Duke, averaging 19.2 points, 7.5 rebounds, 4.2 assists, 1.4 steals and 1.4 blocks as a freshman.
