Overnight crash closed westbound lanes of Interstate 820 overnight in North Richland Hills, officials say

One person was transported to the hospital with critical injuries, officials said. The freeway reopened shortly before the morning rush hour

NORTH RICHLAND HILLS, Texas — All westbound lanes of Loop 820 in North Richland Hills were closed overnight Tuesday after a major overnight crash, officials say. The Interstate has since reopened. 

Officers responded at about 11 p.m. to the area of Loop 820 and Rufe Snow regarding a major accident, according to a release from the department. Police say that three vehicles and an 18-wheeler were involved in the crash.

Officials say witnesses testified that the driver of a Dodge Challenger was erratically driving, colliding into several other cars before crashing into the back of the 18-wheeler.

The crash came to a stop under the Rufe Snow bridge, police said.

One person, the driver of the Challenger, was transported to the hospital with critical injuries, officials said. 

At this time, police said, no criminal charges are expected to be filed.

The main lanes of the interstate remained closed Tuesday morning while the North Richland Hills Crash Team investigated the accident. They were reopened shortly before the morning rush hour. Police say the expressway lanes stayed open. 

The cause of the crash remains under investigation.
