POTEET, Texas – A mother was arrested early Tuesday after allegedly leaving her two toddlers home alone to travel to San Antonio.
Poteet is about 25 miles south of San Antonio.
Angelina Herrera faces two counts of abandoning or endangering a child, as well as a charge of possession of a controlled substance.
Police initially responded to Herrera’s residence after receiving an anonymous tip that the young children had been left unattended while she went to visit a boyfriend in San Antonio. Officers arriving at the scene received no answer at the door.
As police received additional calls about the incident – including reports that Herrera was driving back to the home – Atascosa County sheriff’s deputies pulled her vehicle over for speeding in an unrelated traffic stop. Herrera was taken into custody during the stop on the narcotics charge.
At the same time, a family member arrived at the residence and granted officers entry into the home. Police confirmed both toddlers were awake or unharmed and asleep inside.
