EL PASO, TEXAS (KFOX14/CBS4) — Young patients at The Hospitals of Providence now have new places to play and decompress as the hospital marked the opening of two new play areas on Wednesday.
Hospital officials said the new spaces were made possible through a partnership with the nonprofit Spirit of Children, which provides hospitals across the country with resources.
On Wednesday, the hospital celebrated the opening of the new spaces with a ceremony where organizers said the areas are designed to offer comfort and a place to heal for young patients.
Victoria Gonzalez, chief executive officer of The Hospitals of Providence, said the hospital has created age-specific spaces for children and teens.
“We’ve been able to design three unique areas, one for infants, one for toddlers, and one for adolescents,” Gonzalez said.
The goal, she said, is to help young patients feel more at ease during their hospital stay.
“Get them comfortable, ease their anxiety, and aid them on their way as they to recover,” Gonzalez said.
Kimberly Scott, a consignment operator with Spirit Halloween Stores, thanked community members who donate at Spirit stores.
“If you are coming into our Spirit stores, we are so grateful for the donations,” Scott said. “It goes right here to Providence.”
Organizers said Spirit Halloween stores in El Paso and Las Cruces are continuing to raise money for The Hospitals of Providence.
