Officials say residents should expect a heavy first responder presence around the district, Thursday.
ARANSAS PASS, Texas — Aransas Pass police and schools across the district will conduct an active shooter training exercise Thursday to help first responders prepare for a real emergency.
The drill will simulate an active attack scenario, giving law enforcement, firefighters, EMS personnel and school staff the opportunity to practice how they would communicate and coordinate during a crisis.
Officials said multiple safety measures will be in place throughout the exercise to support those participating.
“We do have precautions in place as well,” Assistant Police Chief Aaron Jones said. “The schools have counselors in place at different locations where events will be happening just in case there are any types of issues.”
Police are also asking parents and community members not to be alarmed if they notice a heavy law enforcement and first responder presence around the district Thursday, emphasizing that it is part of the planned training exercise.
