Fort Worth’s Ridgmar Mall is set to become a logistics center, a Dallas-based real estate investment firm announced on Aug. 6. Now, more details are surfacing about the future of the businesses still operating at the mall, and what exactly a logistics center is.
On Wednesday, Ramrock Real Estate LLC announced the acquisition of the Ridgmar Mall, 1888 Green Oaks Road, and plans to turn it into the Ridgmar 30 Logistics Crossing, a 930,960 square-foot logistics center.
After the announcement, comments on social media asked what logistics centers are and whether they are synonymous with data centers.
On Thursday, Tony Creme, a partner with KBC Advisors, one of the companies involved in the redevelopment, said logistics centers are essentially large warehouses with a variety of uses that help the supply chain.
“Logistics by definition is the detailed planning, organizing, and management of the movement of storage and flow of goods and services,” Creme explained. “These are warehouses, plain and simple. They’re going to store all different types of products depending on who leases the space.”
The warehouses could be used for last-mile delivery centers, Creme said, or even a showroom for products used in home construction and renovations.
Specific tenants have not been identified, Creme said, but he confirmed that the development would not include data centers.
Creme said that the mall will remain open for some time. Demolition could begin in the next 12 to 18 months as developers continue conversations with tenants and business owners operating inside the mall.
