Laredo’s drought is projected to continue through at least Wednesday, while the weekend forecast features slightly cooler temperatures.
It has not rained in Laredo since recording 0.44 inches on July 24. With no rain in the forecast through Wednesday in data available from the National Weather Service, that would extend the drought to 19 days.
June was the 12th-wettest in recorded history with 5.52 inches of rain, which included 3.53 inches June 15, 0.98 inches June 19 and 0.12 inches June 20.
Since then, rain has been sparse outside of the 0.44 inches July 24. Across the other 44 days heading into Friday, there were only three other days with rain combining for 0.1 inches.
The drought has been common throughout South Texas. Corpus Christi finished June with 7.09 inches of rain, but it has recorded only 0.18 inches since June 22. San Antonio has not had rain since recording 0.13 inches July 24, which came after a week of no rain.
Austin and Brownsville both had no rain from June 21 to July 9. Austin has not recorded any rainfall since 0.07 inches July 24. Brownsville has recorded only 0.04 inches of rain since July 10, with the last coming July 23.
With the lack of rain, Laredo has continued to trend above average for temperatures this summer.
July finished 1.8 degrees above average with an overall temperature of 89.9 degrees. That included an average high of 101.8 degrees, 1.9 degrees above average, and a low of 78 degrees, 1.7 degrees above average.
Through Thursday, this month was averaging a high of 102.8 degrees and a low of 79.5 degrees. Those are both above the normal averages of 102.4 degrees and 77.7 degrees. The overall temperature is also at 91.2 degrees, 1.1 degrees above average.
Tuesday and Wednesday both featured records for low temperatures. The low of 81 degrees Tuesday tied the record for the highest minimum temperature on Aug. 4, which was set in 2023. Wednesday’s low of 82 degrees broke the Aug. 5 record of 81 degrees, which was last recorded in 2023.
After a high of 105 degrees Thursday, cooler temperatures are in the weekend forecast, with the high projected to reach 103 degrees Friday, Saturday and Monday and dip to 101 degrees Sunday.
The low temperature is projected to drop to 77 degrees Saturday and Sunday before rising slightly to 78 degrees Monday.
Double-digit winds are in the forecast, with sustained winds projected to reach up to 15 mph Saturday and Sunday and 17 mph Monday. Wind gusts are also projected to reach up to 22 mph Saturday, 23 mph Sunday and 26 mph Monday.
