ROCKPORT, Texas — Rockport Ward 1 Councilmember Stephanie Rangel has resigned, according to city officials.
On Friday, Aug. 7, the city announced Rangel’s resignation and said it will hold a special election on Tuesday, Nov. 3, 2026, to fill the remainder of her term. The term is scheduled to expire in May 2029.
The Rockport City Council is expected to officially call the special election during its regular meeting on Aug. 11. Candidate applications will be accepted beginning Aug. 12 through Aug. 20 at 6 p.m.
“Stephanie has been a dedicated advocate for Ward 1 and the City of Rockport. She approached every decision with a genuine desire to serve her neighbors and improve our community,” Mayor Tim Jayroe said. “On behalf of the City Council and the citizens of Rockport, I want to thank Stephanie for her commitment, leadership and the positive impact she has made. We wish her nothing but success in the future.”
