The Catholic Charities Dallas broke ground on the 40,000-square-foot collaborative nonprofit center
As Collin County continues to grow, so does the challenge of connecting families with essential services. Catholic Charities Dallas hopes to change that through NeighborHUB, a new collaborative center that will bring healthcare, legal aid, education and nonprofit organizations together in a single facility, making support easier to access across North Texas.
Leaders from Catholic Charities Dallas, the city of McKinney and several nonprofit partners officially broke ground on Aug. 4 on the 40,000-square-foot facility, which is expected to open in late 2027. Once completed, NeighborHUB will serve as a shared home for organizations working together to support families throughout Collin County and the surrounding region.
Why NeighborHUB Matters
Collin County continues to rank among the nation’s fastest-growing counties, but rapid growth has also increased demand for social services. According to Catholic Charities Dallas, roughly one in five families in the region lives in poverty, while one in six Texas children experiences food insecurity.
Different organizations in the region are working to increase access to basic services. Earlier this summer, CommonGood Medical expanded its McKinney clinic to improve healthcare access for uninsured neighbors.
NeighborHUB builds on that broader effort by focusing on coordinated access across multiple nonprofit services, addressing challenges many nonprofits and families across North Texas face. While services exist, they’re often spread across multiple organizations and locations, making them difficult for residents to navigate. Instead of traveling from agency to agency across the Dallas-Fort Worth area, visitors will enter through a single point of access designed to connect them with healthcare, legal assistance, education, financial coaching and other essential resources.
A Collaborative Model
What makes NeighborHUB different isn’t simply the number of organizations inside the building — it’s how they’re designed to work together.
The facility will house Catholic Charities Dallas, One Heart McKinney, St. Vincent de Paul, Streetside Showers and Neighbors Nourishing Neighbors, alongside support partners, including Mission Regan, Grace Presbytery, Medbridge, Sanchez Charities and The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, who will strengthen referral networks and provide additional community resources.
Organizations will share conference rooms, coworking areas and a centralized reception managed by One Heart McKinney, allowing families to connect with multiple services during the same visit instead of having to coordinate appointments across several locations.
The center is also designed to be financially sustainable. Participating nonprofits will lease office space at below-market rates without making an upfront capital investment, while rental income will help cover the building’s operating expenses and long-term maintenance.
Building On A Proven Approach
NeighborHUB’s shared-services concept has parallels elsewhere in North Texas. For example, Serve Denton operates a collaborative nonprofit center designed to connect multiple service providers in one location. According to the organization’s 2022 Annual Report, Serve Denton assisted 31,636 people, recorded more than 50,000 resident visits and facilitated 2,429 referrals between partner agencies in a single year.
Those referrals offer a glimpse at the potential benefits of co-locating service providers. When organizations operate under one roof, clients can be connected directly to additional resources without having to independently navigate multiple agencies and locations.
NeighborHUB is expected to serve more than 12,000 unique residents during its first year, with that number projected to grow to nearly 29,000 annually by year five. To support that demand, Catholic Charities Dallas plans to offer six core programs: Adult and Early Childhood Education, a Community Health Clinic, Immigration Legal Services, the Next Gen Wealth Academy for financial literacy, tax assistance and workforce readiness, parenting classes and free tax preparation through the Volunteer Income Tax Assistance (VITA) program.
“The NeighborHUB in McKinney will allow us to not only expand our services, but also be close to those in need throughout our northern counties,” Catholic Charities Dallas CEO Dave Woodyard said in an official statement. “This amazing new facility will provide an affordable and collaborative home for multiple nonprofits to join together in a holistic approach, providing vital services, support and hope.”
If NeighborHUB reaches its projected impact, it could become a model for how rapidly growing communities coordinate social services. Rather than asking families to navigate a fragmented network of providers, it brings organizations together in one place, making collaboration easier for nonprofits and access simpler for the people they serve.
