DALLAS — Texas is no stranger to growth, and where there is growth, that usually means there’s construction.
Dallas and the areas that surround it lead the nation in hotel construction for another consecutive year, according to the Lodging Econometrics’ U.S. Construction Pipeline Trend Report. This report breaks down new hotel developments and renovations across the U.S. by each quarter.
The report showed Dallas has the nation’s largest hotel construction pipeline, with 183 projects in the works for the second quarter of 2026.
The city is also leading the nation with 38 hotel projects currently under construction.
“We have finance, we have healthcare, we have technology, professional services. So there are so many different types of industry that make our hotel stay resilient,” said Traci Mayer, executive director for the Hotel Association of North Texas.
Mayer said that along with the different workforce industries, the Dallas-Fort Worth area has the space and affordable prices that draw hotel developers.
“The cost of land that is also very affordable here, [more] accessible than other major U.S. markets. And combined with that and the new residents coming in, all the jobs that are available, this is just a very dynamic place for development,” she said.
Another Texas city also stood out in the report: when it comes to hotel renovations, Houston leads the nation with 35 projects.
The report includes neighboring suburban cities Frisco and Plano in the total of hotels under construction in the Dallas area.
“It comes down to the different personalities of the hotels. And we have so many different types of hotels, from luxury all the way to family-friendly and everything in between,” Mayer said.
