The El Paso County Sheriff’s Office launched an investigation Saturday after one of its off-duty K-9s was shot and killed during an incident that sent a man to an urgent care facility.
The man told emergency dispatchers that the K-9, Styx, bit him and attacked his dog around 12:30 p.m. in the 8900 block of Royal Melbourne Circle near Falcon, Sheriff’s Office spokesperson Cassandra Sebastian said.
The man was treated at the scene and later went to an urgent care center for additional treatment. Styx was taken to a veterinary hospital, where he died.
The Sheriff’s Office will release more information about its investigation when it becomes available, Sebastian said.
