EL PASO COUNTY, Colo. (KKTV) – An El Paso County k9 is dead after an incident that happened while it was off duty.
The El Paso County Sheriff’s Office said they got a call about an unknown dog attacking the caller’s dog around 12:30 p.m. on Saturday. They said that dog also bit the caller, with the caller saying he shot the dog.
Deputies said they responded to Royal Melbourne Circle in the Falcon area of unincorporated El Paso County.
Before they arrived, they said an off-duty K9 deputy told them the dog involved in the attack was K9 Styx.
Deputies from El Paso County responded alongside medical personnel from the Falcon and Black Forest Fire Departments, according to officials.
Deputies said a man was taken to an urgent care facility with non-life-threatening injuries.
K9 Styx was taken to a veterinary hospital where deputies say he died.
The El Paso County Sheriff’s Office will be investigating exactly what happened.
