OXNARD, Calif. — The leadership for the Dallas Cowboys didn’t shy away from their interest in making more additions to the roster when training camp began. Team owner Jerry Jones even went as far as saying they could be interested in substantive additions and they would be willing to use future, premium picks to make a difference today.
With all due respect to some of their recent, end-of-the-roster additions, a bigger-impact addition is still on the minds of the Cowboys’ leadership.
Cowboys co-owner Stephen Jones said on a team broadcast of Saturday’s practice that the Cowboys not only remain interested in more additions to the roster, but they remain active, too. Jones said they’ve talked with other teams about potential trade options, as well as veteran free agents.
The Cowboys have also consistently identified defense as an area they would target. Specifically, keep an eye on edge rusher as a potential place for an addition. The Cowboys are optimistic about the progression the defensive backs and linebackers have made in training camp.
The Cowboys have also signaled interest in doing business with some of their own players. The most notable option is defensive tackle Quinnen Williams. The team has been very impressed with Williams as a player and a leader since they acquired him at the trade deadline for a first-round pick in 2027, a second-round pick in 2026, and former first-round defensive tackle Mazi Smith.
Stephen Jones said at the opening press conference that they were interested in discussing an extension with Williams, who is set to be a free agent after the 2027 season.
“He’s at the top of our list,” Jones said.
On Saturday, Williams’ agent, Nicole Lynn of Klutch Sports, spent the majority of Cowboys’ practice talking with Adam Prasifka, the team’s senior director of salary cap and contracts. She also spoke with Stephen Jones and other members of the front office.
The Cowboys have made some moves at the end of their roster earlier this week. They claimed tight end Zack Kuntz off waivers after they placed Princeton Fant on injured reserve. On Friday, they worked out three running backs and ultimately signed former UFL running back Jashaun Corbin. To make room, they released undrafted free agent running back Dominic Richardson.
If the Cowboys are to be believed, however, that’s hardly the last addition they’ll make before the season begins.
