AUSTIN, Texas (KBTX) – Aggie soccer fell to rival Texas in its final exhibition of the season, 1-0 on Saturday night.
Texas A&M goalkeeper Makenna August recorded four saves, but couldn’t get in front of Amalia Villarreal’s point-blank shot in the 43rd minute, which put the Longhorns up 1-0 at halftime.
The Aggies were aggressive in the second half, but were never able to find the back of the net in the one-goal loss to Texas.
“I think this was good for our team. [It’s] good to play an SEC opponent away, have this experience.” said Texas A&M head coach Bobby Shuttleworth. “I think this is exactly what our team needs because at the end of the day, obviously, we want to beat Texas every time that we play them, but this is a preseason game, and our real first game is on Wednesday. So we need to learn from this and grow.”
The Aggies defeated the Longhorns 1-0 last season, which helped Texas A&M claim the 2025-26 Lone Star Showdown at-large competition.
This season, there will be no scheduled soccer point, as tonight’s exhibition did not count toward the 2026-27 Lone Star Showdown.
The Aggies open the regular season on August 12 at Rice. A&M’s first regular season home match is on August 22 against Sam Houston.
