SAN ANTONIO – Four people were hospitalized after a late-night fire tore through an apartment building on the city’s Southeast Side, prompting firefighters to rescue a trapped resident.
The fire started around 10 p.m. at the Pecan Valley Golf Club Apartments off Pecan Grove Boulevard near East Southcross Boulevard.
According to the San Antonio Fire Department, firefighters launched an aggressive interior attack after receiving reports that a resident was trapped inside one of the apartments. Crews entered the building after shutting off power and were able to safely rescue the individual.
We had reports of one person stuck inside an apartment,” said Joe Arrington with the San Antonio Fire Department. “Crews went in, made a rapid search, pulled one person out of the apartment. One person had jumped from the second floor as well. Both of them were transported with smoke inhalation, minor burns, and then a fall-related injury.
Officials said another resident jumped from a second-floor apartment to escape the flames and suffered injuries from the fall. Two additional people were transported to a hospital after suffering smoke inhalation. Fire officials said all four victims sustained minor injuries, including smoke inhalation, minor burns, and fall-related injuries.
The fire damaged four apartment units. Images from the scene showed charred walls on several of the affected apartments as emergency crews worked under flashing red and blue lights.
Firefighters were able to contain the blaze in approximately 20 minutes, preventing it from spreading further through the building.
