Confirming rumors and murmurs, longtime restaurant and club space Kamp Houston announced on Sunday that it had closed its doors permanently. The restaurant shuttered after six years in operation.
“Thank you, Houston,” read Kamp Houston’s announcement, posted in an Instagram reel and set to Frank Ocean’s “Godspeed.” “Thank you to our amazing team, every Kamp Counselor, every team member who helped bring this vision to life, and every guest who walked through our doors from right here in Houston to visitors from all across the world.”
The restaurant closed because its operator ALife Hospitality Group failed to come to terms on a lease extension, according to the note. Also, ALife also cited “ongoing sound and parking challenges with our neighbors” as a reason Kamp closed.
Located at 6025 Westheimer Road, close to Fountain View Drive in Uptown Houston, Kamp was an instant hit upon opening in 2020 at the former Beavers West space. It served as a standard, family friendly bar and grill until 8 p.m. Thursday-Sunday with boiled seafood, grilled oysters, and Southern staples like catfish and oxtails. After 8 p.m., however, the restaurant turned into a club with DJs and plenty of cocktails. Celebrities including Drake and Glorilla had been spotted inside Kamp.

But as ALife noted, there were complaints from the neighborhood. KHOU reported in April nearby residents voiced concerns over loud music playing well into the early morning hours, and over Kamp’s valet service parking cars on residential streets. Plus, the Houston Police Department temporarily shut down Kamp previously for not maintaining fire and safety systems properly.
Amid that news, rumors began percolating that Kamp’s future could be in jeopardy. While the restaurant and club is now closed, ALife noted it’s cooking up a new concept. The hospitality group’s portfolio also includes downtown restaurant Bungalow, bar-restaurants Lost & Found and Prospect Park, Cajun hibachi restaurant Stick Talk and a car wash facility. Lounge and restaurant FRNDS, another ALife concept, closed earlier this year.
