LUBBOCK, Texas (KCBD) – Another round of hot temperatures for the South Plains today. Lubbock reached 97 degrees, slightly ahead of the normal value of 94 degrees. It was HOT once again for all of west Texas and the Lone Star state in general.

Looking ahead, the heat will continue for Texas and a large portion of the central and southwest U.S.
Upper-level high pressure continues to control the weather pattern, producing hot temperatures and low rain chances for Texas. The high is expected to edge closer to west Texas by mid-week resulting in a slight increase in already hot days for the South Plains.

Fortunately, high pressure should begin to retreat slightly by late week and afternoon maximum temperatures should return to the mid to upper 90s.
Slight storm chances should also return by Thursday and could continue into the weekend.
Just remember, if you’re outside, drink extra water, seek shade and/or air conditioning as often as possible.
