Choice Living Community is hosting a free Saturday workshop to help parents understand IEPs, accommodations, goals and services for students with disabilities.
CORPUS CHRISTI, Texas — As families prepare for another school year, parents of students with disabilities may have additional questions about how to make sure their children receive the support they need in the classroom.
Choice Living Community is hosting a free workshop Saturday designed to help parents better understand their child’s Individualized Education Program, commonly known as an IEP.

The workshop will take place from 10 a.m. to noon.
Organizers say parents will learn about the different parts of an IEP and how they can advocate for their children.
Dr. Jennifer Scott, executive director of Choice Living Community, said the workshop will cover everything from goals and objectives to accommodations, supports and services.
Parents will also learn about the requirements of an IEP and how they can ask for appropriate resources for their children.
Scott said understanding the IEP process is an important part of helping children with disabilities succeed in school and beyond.
Parents are encouraged to bring a copy of their child’s IEP to the workshop.
The workshop is free, but organizers recommend signing up ahead of time because seating is limited.
Choice Living Community is a nonprofit organization that works with families and individuals with disabilities and helps connect them with resources and support.
Organizers say the goal of Saturday’s workshop is to give parents the information and confidence they need to participate in the educational process and advocate for their children.
