A new Costco could be on its way to another North Texas city.
The popular retailer is named in documents related to a new development that’s part of a work session at the Flower Mound Planning and Zoning Commission slated for Monday. One document shows a parking study in connection to the “proposed Costco Wholesale Warehouse” in the city.
Today, fans of the retailer in Flower Mound must make their way to cities such as Lewisville and Southlake. The new store building in Flower Mound could have more than 160,000 square feet, the documents show.
Costco, competing with BJ’s Wholesale Club and Sam’s Club, continues to invest in the greater Dallas-Fort Worth area, which has continued to expand with more population, housing and retail. The company, which is based Washington state, is slated to open North Texas stores this month in Celina and also in Mansfield, where it only has a gas station at that location now, according to the website.
Flower Mound is among the cities showing growth locally. It reached nearly 80,000 people on July 1, 2025, according to the U.S. Census Bureau. That’s up from about 76,000 on April 1, 2020, and about 65,000 in April 1, 2010.
The potential Flower Mound Costco is part of a proposed Cottonwood development that encompasses roughly 85 acres. The property is “generally located” north of Dixon Lane, south of Justin Road and east of Long Prairie.
