EL PASO, Texas (KFOX14/CBS4) — An El Paso woman has been accused of murder in the deadly shooting of a man whose body was found inside a vehicle in a PetSmart parking lot, according to a complaint affidavit filed in El Paso County.
Erica Michelle Yarbrough, 38, is accused of shooting and killing Stephen Matthew Delgado on Aug. 5 in the parking lot of the PetSmart at 3790 Joe Battle Blvd.
The affidavit alleges Yarbrough intentionally or knowingly caused Delgado’s death by shooting him with a firearm.
El Paso police were called to the parking lot after Delgado was found dead.
Investigators said he had been shot and was sitting inside a black 2019 Nissan Sentra.
Officers also observed multiple bullet casings and unfired bullets at the scene, according to the affidavit.

Deputy Medical Examiner Dr. Janice Diaz conducted an autopsy and determined Delgado’s death was a homicide caused by gunshot wounds, the affidavit states. Investigators later learned from Delgado’s family that he and Yarbrough had a child together.
Detectives canvassed the area and obtained surveillance video from a nearby homeowner that investigators said captured activity around the time of the shooting.
According to the affidavit, the video showed a small two-door pickup arriving behind the PetSmart between 8 and 9 p.m.
Delgado later arrived in his vehicle and stopped next to the pickup before both vehicles moved to another area of the parking lot.
Investigators wrote that the video then appeared to capture suspected gunfire. Seconds later, the pickup left the parking lot toward Joe Battle Boulevard.
Police used license-plate-reader records from a nearby roadway to identify the pickup, according to the affidavit. Investigators said the vehicle was registered to Bobby Servin Yarbrough, whom the document identifies as having the same last name as the mother of Delgado and Yarbrough’s child.
Records also allegedly showed the pickup had previously been parked at the Sherman Ridge Apartment Complex and that Yarbrough had been seen driving it on a public roadway.
Detectives subsequently confirmed Yarbrough’s residence and conducted surveillance there on Aug. 6, when they observed the pickup near her apartment, according to the affidavit.
Police continued surveillance on Aug. 7 and arrested Yarbrough, initially noting that she had outstanding traffic warrants, according to the court document.
The affidavit states Yarbrough was interviewed by detectives with the El Paso Police Department’s Crimes Against Persons Unit following her arrest.
During that interview, investigators allege Yarbrough confessed to meeting Delgado, using drugs with him, shooting him with a firearm, leaving the scene and later disposing of the gun, the document stated.
The affidavit does not specify what investigators believe led to the shooting or describe where the firearm was allegedly discarded.
