Zatar Lebanese Tapas & Bar will close its doors in Deep Ellum by the end of August, becoming at least the sixth food-related business to shutter in the Dallas neighborhood this year.
“Over the last two years, we’ve fought through one challenge after another,” a Facebook post from the restaurant said. “We poured everything we had into keeping our doors open because we truly believed things would turn around.”
According to the post, the restaurant’s closure is due to “ongoing construction and other challenges” that have “made it impossible for us to continue.”
The Dallas Morning News attempted to reach the owners by phone Monday to learn more about the closure but did not immediately hear back.
Once called “Dallas’ new hot spot for Lebanese meze,” Zatar offered a menu of hot and cold appetizers like hummus or the falafel plate, as well as dishes like beef kabob, lamb chops and pan-seared salmon. Zatar, which has been open since 2016, also doubles as a hookah spot.
Deep Ellum has seen at least five other restaurant closures this year, some of which were businesses that had been open for about a decade or longer.
Closing Zatar “wasn’t an easy decision,” the owners said in the Facebook post, but there’s still time to visit the restaurant.
“We still have a few weeks left, and we’d love the opportunity to see you one last time,” the post said. “Come enjoy your favorite dishes, have one more drink, smoke one more hookah, and help us celebrate the memories we’ve created together.”
Zatar Lebanese Tapas & Bar is at 2825 Commerce St., Dallas. The restaurant will be closing by the end of August, though its last day was not disclosed. zatardallas.com.
