A Plano resident is using her personal experience with Crohn’s disease to help provide comfort and practical support to people facing gastrointestinal health challenges.
Leah Cosentino, who was diagnosed with Crohn’s disease at age 12, is collecting donations to assemble GI comfort kits for Hope Restored Missions. The organization assists people experiencing homelessness and others in need.
“Because of that, I want to help support others facing similar struggles, especially those who don’t have the same support system that I’m blessed to have,” Cosentino said in an email.
Community members can participate in the drive by purchasing requested supplies through an Amazon wish list. The items will be shipped directly to Cosentino, who will sanitize the donations, assemble the comfort kits and deliver them to Hope Restored Missions.
Each kit costs approximately $10 to assemble. The drive began July 14 and will continue through Aug. 30.
Hope Restored Missions is aware of the independently organized effort and is prepared to receive the completed kits. The drive’s wish list includes some of the organization’s most-needed items and was created to make contributing more convenient for Plano residents.
