LUBBOCK, Texas (KCBD) – For the second straight year, Lubbock Independent School District is celebrating the steady improvements in the Texas Education Agency’s (TEA) academic accountability ratings.
In the newly released 2026 ratings, the district scored 82% overall, continuing its upward trend after rising from a “C” to a “B” (80%) in 2025.
Superintendent Dr. Kathy Rollo credited the growth to the hard work of students and teachers, noting that the district now has three “A”-rated high schools—the most of any single district in the region.
“While we know we still have plenty of work to do at several of our campuses, this achievement is proof that our district is steadily progressing toward our goal of educating all of our students at A- and B-rated campuses,” Dr. Rollo said.
Leading the high school successes was Monterey High School, which earned an “A” rating for the first time in school history during Principal Justin Newman’s first year leading the campus.
Lubbock High School and Talkington School for Young Women Leaders both maintained their top “A” status this year, while other high schools saw marked growth:
Coronado High School increased its rating by eight points to reach an 89%.Estacado High School raised its score from 74% to 79%.
A strong showing at the elementary and middle school levels anchored the district’s overall growth.

Eleven additional campuses achieved “B” ratings:
Bayless Elementary, Brown Elementary, Hardwick Elementary, Maedgen Elementary, Ramirez Elementary, Roberts Elementary, Smith Elementary, Waters Elementary, Wheelock Elementary, Williams Elementary, and Hutchinson Middle School.
In total, 21 Lubbock ISD campuses are now on the “A” or “B” list. More than half of the district’s schools showed positive growth in student achievement this year.
These 21 successful campuses serve approximately 14,000 students, representing 62% of the district’s total enrollment of over 23,000.
